Its the Weekend!

We had our first saturday in a while here free. We spent most of it out, almost all day . Stefan has been working so much here, laboring from morning till evening. First on his full-time job, then in the evenings with his freelance. So having a free saturday was a surprise and obviously, really nice. We started by going out for breakfast to a French owned and operated bakery, called ‘La Chatelaine’. We shared an apple pastry, spinach quiche, hard roll and a donut. The coffee was really superb. And the food was really good as well.

It’s actually neat how it is set-up, you grab a tray just like in a cafeteria, and then you just ask for what you want, and they check you out at the end of the line. You pick your own table, and you refill your own coffee at their coffee bar.

This was the first time we had their breakfast, we would love making it back again another day.
For us, morning breakfast is one of our most favorite meals. Setting the stage to a good morning, of sorts. While eating, sitting, and enjoying the view out the window I kept thinking about how I’d like to incorporate  some of the things we experience out–eating out. I want to pull that into our quaint little home. Because when we go to a restaurant, there is already an atmosphere. But at home we are in charge of creating our own. And I want to be able let that be part of my daily experience. I don’t want us to always feel like we need to be taken out any time we want too. But to realize we can make our own things, superb and wonderful, all our own. And what better way to save a little money? We did other things this day. But this little place was definitely one of my favorites.

Baby its Cold Outside

Things have been cooling down here in Ohio, and inside things have been warming up. We have been nurturing houseplants, cooking good food, and trying to stay warm the best we can.

Last week we made this homemade pizza for dinner…

Our cat Chessy has been trying to stay warm as well, she is our oldest cat finding every heat register, and every cozy spot. Our biggest challenge is keeping her off the clothes that come straight from the dryer. Here she has found the giant floor cushion…

I been doing a little bit of crochet, using a new bamboo/silk blend yarn. I really need to get back into doing more crafty things. It is so nice to relax and work on things. I been really thinking about trying my hands at a small throw/quilt. I have some scraps and I actually already have some batting. But I also need to make the time, and I have so many other things I would like to do.

And I been loving the smell of this Lemon tree’s blooms, they fill the house with a Jasmine like scent.

 

We had soup on the menu a couple of days ago, it was a Kiebasa Tortellini soup. I did not manage to get a picture, but it also helped to warm us up!

Breakfasts and Good Mornings

I have been loving getting used to having my new gas stove. I used to abhor mornings with my old stove– an old electric with three semi-working burners. I would try to prepare my husband and my breakfasts, and we would always eat at separate times. I could not make food and have it done all the same time, because the burners were small, and they heated up erratically at times. Making pancakes could even get interesting. Not so anymore, I can make things now I would never attempt with my old stove. So now, I actually get excited to make breakfasts. Although, I bet that feeling may wear off when I am met with tiredness and the stove becomes ‘old’ news. But for now, I am enjoying it. So I just thought I would give a post on food, and It’s ‘meal changing’ capabilities.

The oven works really well too. I made these yummy Dutch baby’s. When we usually make dutch baby’s we generally have them with lemons and powdered sugar, but this time I tried them with homemade whipped cream and organic strawberries. It went over well, although I was even more bad when I melted a tad of chocolate and added just a bit to even more sweeten the deal. I know we were supposed to be having breakfast, but I always make normal things into an exciting occasion, so bad.

Yesterday I made just some sausage and eggs with toast, but I did not manage to sneak a picture, but today’s breakfast I did.

We now have a cast iron griddle that came with our stove, so french toast with bacon it was. Wow, I am getting fat just thinking about it. I feel the need to diet already *wink*

A week ago we made this apple tart. It is great paired with french pressed coffee.

Okay so I think you get the idea.
